There are exceptions...

We (me and my husband Sundar) landed our foot in the US soils on January 26th 2007. Sundar's first job was in Virginia. So we stayed in a hotel In Virginia till we found a house.

It took us a week to find  ourselves a place to live in.The next , furnishing the house. We didnt have a car ,so were dependent on the local taxis.

We had decided to go to Walmart and buy a few stuffs to fill in our house. So, Sundar called a taxi and we were waiting for him to pick us up.we got  a call from the taxi guy in 15 minutes letting us know that he  has arrived. The driver was a pakistani and we soon picked up a conversation. He went on and on about his life in the US and blah blah...

When we arrived at our destination,we got out and asked him  the usual question."What is the charge?"he looked at us and said "I wont take money from you. You are an Indian and my very good friend is an indian. So i dont want any money." He said that and  even before we could realise long gone amidst the other cars. The charge would have been around $40 for sure.

9/11 attacks and the recent 26/11 attacks are blamed after pakistanis and muslims..and here is a guy who didnt take money from us just because we were indians.

There are exceptions...:)

Amma!!

"Amma yendru azhaikkadha uyir illiye" a beautiful song penned by Vali . So true and real.Ok i am not writing about the song here.Yes about Amma..my amma.
We humans usually take each others for granted. yes we do. One person who is mostly taken for granted is amma.
Looking back I also feel that i have taken her for granted.Of course i love her and that has always been there. I came to know the true meaning of the word and the person when i became a mother. Lying in the hospital bed undergoing the turmoils of labour, the first person who came in my mind then was my AMMA. yes i did think about my husband Sundar too..But Amma came first.

I realised the similar pains she had undergone when i was on my way to see the world. The pains she took to bring me up this far.
I love her more than i used to today. Today she is a proud grandmother of my daughter.Though she is in India , she makes it a point to see her "Pethi"everyday and sing all the nursery rhymes and songs she knows.

I have started the cycle now. Sometime in the future my daughter would also start a blog and write about her Amma.I will mark a victory that moment and that day :)

Love u amma :)

A tribute to R K Narayan

I am not an avid reader. But,yes,i do read. Among all the books that I have laid my hands on,RKN's books remain my favourite and remains in my heart.
The intro song of the famous Malgudi days" Thanana thananana naaaaa..."still rings in my ears.I have read almost all his books. Its the simple language and the names of his characters and not to forget his sense of humour that i love the most."Swami,Nagaraj,Rajam,Ramu,Somu,Mani etc to name a few brought life to his stories.

I have read and re-read his books just to refresh my memory . Newspapers and journalists have written all about RKN.I dont have anything unusual about him to write. The world knows him.Just that I take this occasion to pay my tributes to this great author.

He is  living in his books and in the  hearts of  book lovers and in mine too!!

The Cinema today!!

Tell me the truth? When was the last time you saw a movie in a  theatre or DVD and gave a positive comment? "Ok","Oru thadava pakkalam","Crap","ore violence",Arent these the comments?
The last movie i saw and liked was "mozhi" and i heard another one in the pipeline"Abhiyum naanum"rated as a good entertainer.I have not seen the movie yet.so Mozhi remains my last and good one.
I really want to know  what the directors and producers and the people who make the storyline think when they conceive a movie.Of course money takes the larger share.I really sympathize with  the youngsters today who have missed out on so many good movies. I very well remember and cherish the movies I saw when i was a child. We were not taken to the theatres often but the memories of the ones I have seen remains fresh.
I maybe the only one considering todays cinema  a problem. maybe a handful will agree to my views. Well, I am not going to stage a dharna or argue on this. I can just do one justice.

Not see any movies :D
And wait for a good one. :)

Natrupenn

Wondering what it means? Well, its "mattuuponn"!! i would like to thank my father in law for the  elaborate explanation he gave me.  The real word is "Matrupenn or Natrupenn".
No girl escapes the wrath of marriage and wedding. It is definitely a good thing to happen to any girl rather woman. Gone are the days where the mamiyars(mother in laws) used to harass and torture the young brides. The relationship between the two is good today .Touchwood!!! Thats mainly because life has changed and people are coming out of their shells (the culture and tradition line is however not crossed or exceeded).

Coming to the meaning of the word "Natrupenn",the young girl born in a family is adopted  and rooted into the groom's family. Its like removing a plant and planting it in an other place. She there after becomes the daughter (in law) of her husband's clan.

Well, young ladies  on the threshold of getting married. Fear not for  things have changed rather people have changed:)

What are your qualifications?

Hello,

Almost everyone we meet are sure to ask this question after breaking the ice. Engineer? oh commerce groupa?
In our society engineering is the most recognised field of  study. And poor commerce graduates are considered useless. I  am myself   a commerce graduate. My parents were happy with my decision after my 10th. i was too except for a few mamas and mamis in my family and neighbourhood.I am no way behind the so called engineers and doctors today.salary is the main concern i guess. Yes u need money to survive.

This sort of differences in groups will continue.dont know for how long. I feel apart from your field you chose to study, one first and most important fieldor area is how to manage people and how to survive.Learning how to live matters the most. Everything else will fall in place :) And engineers and doctors , no ill feelings. ;)

Birth of "en diary"

Hello,

I was very much inspired by Anne frank. She had religiously kept and maintained a dairy which showed the world the life and struggle of the people  who suffered at the German rule.
Well,my diary is not going to show or prove anything of that sort. some simple thoughts and feelings that i can share . Thats all.
"En Diary" means "My diary". :)
